Resolute

I rolled in sort of late from another night of speed dating with my hospice patients.  It could have been worse but as I'm finding is typical for a holiday eve, it was bad enough.  One death, one start of care and one pain pump problem.  The drives were far between too.  I was getting pretty frustrated running all over town when I started wondering why.  Why was I frustrated?  I pulled over to make a couple of calls when it dawned on me I hadn't eaten.  I was starving and my blood sugar was somewhere in the abyss.  I tried to remember my last good meal, and I think it was Monday.  I'm pretty bad at keeping resolutions, but from this point on, I'm promising myself that I WILL eat a decent meal before I hit the road.  This will probably help the coping skills immensely.

I was taking stock of my accomplishments recently.  I made a major job change.  That's huge by anyone's standards.  I think I'm acclimating fairly well and my back is tremendously better.  I only hurt now when I clean the house.  Ha!  Maybe I should quit that job too.  My work resolution will be to stop making myself nuts and being a perfectionist.  I really need to set some limits.  If I don't, I'll be doing nothing but working.

On the knitting front, although it doesn't seem like it to me, I was prolific with those needles!  I finished 2 sweaters. So one was a baby sweater, so what?  It's still done.  Also included are the following:  an afghan, 5 pairs of socks and 4 pair that don't have mates (yet), 3 moebius shawls, 3 hats, 1 pair of thrummed mittens and 1 pair of plain ones, a tank top, a felted purse, 2 noro purses, 1 clapotis, 1 scarf, and a partridge in a pair tree.  Wow.  I didn't include anything I started but haven't yet finished.  I really need to keep better track.  The thing is, I give a lot of stuff away then don't realize how much I really accomplished.   If I were wise, I'd start a projects sidebar.  I don't update my ravelry projects page though so I don't know what makes me think I'd update a sidebar.  Anyways, keeping track is not my resolution for my knitting.  A yarn diet is.  My sister gave me a lovely sweater for Christmas.  She told me after reading my post about organizing my stash, there was no way she would contribute to that insanity.  You know, I've NEVER seen her leave a yarn store empty handed-and she intimated I have an issue. Still, it's possible she may be a teensy bit correct about that.  From this point forward, unless I need it to finish a project when I've run out of yarn, I'll not buy anything new until, oh say March.  That sounds good to me.  I usually don't go more than 2 weeks without stash enhancement so that'll be major for me.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Do you think Vegas would give odds on how long I can hold out?

I hope you all have a fabulous 2009.  Thanks for taking the time to read this and for your comments.  This really is quite a wonderful community of people I've discovered.

You've got to look after yourself girl, get a decent meal inside you. Looking forward to keeping up with you in the coming year, it's been a pleasure getting to know you this year

I'm expecting to see a picture of the partridge in a pear tree that you knitted.

I eat Miss, but it's the rib sticking meals I need. I don't mean to skip meals but I get so busy and the next thing you know, it's midnight.

Fly, you're always good at picking out hyperbole.

Laurie, you're welcome to take my resolution and make it your own. Happy New Year to you too.

It's good for us to take care of ourselves, yes? As women we tend to take care of others first, I think; and as care givers we do the same.
Be good to yourself, and happy new year.

Thank you for being a great blog friend. Add to your list? Meeting up at MS&W? I've never been and would love to have a reason to follow through. I did start my blog to keep a knitting journal but don't always do that well. I envy the people who track date started, yarn type, needle size, pattern, and date finished. But I don't seem to do it that way. Yet. Happy New Year!!

I don't know, grrrl. Seems to me it would be fabulous to keep a large stash of yarn set aside for those rainy days, and besides, you are helping the economy of a local store in your neighborhood. Could be it's your patriotic duty to buy more yarn.
I hear you about the eating. For me, it's always "When I get this next thing done." That pushes it till late afternoon to get a measly sandwich. We need to invent a quick and easy hot meal for nurses and become ridiculously wealthy. THAT would help our backs forever:>)

Debra, I can only promise to try. It's true, we always put ourselves last.

Rose, I was just thinking of the MS&W festival. I'll talk to Mareseatoats. I know Rositta wants to go too. We have to start planning.

Distracted, if I eat one more grilled cheese sandwich, I'm going to start mooing. There has to be a better way.

Wow! That is a long list of completed projects. I would not feel bad about the stash with results like those. Way to go Rudee! I haven't figured out how to live an organized life. Taking time to eat is sometimes just a pain in the behind. Probably why mine is so large. I don't eat properly either, and get all the bad symptoms of it. Then I slap myself on the forehead and say "I could have a V-8"." I know..cheesy pun...sad.

Happy New Year Rudee, you sure did a lot of knitting, much more than I did this year. I left a yarn store empty handed last year in Germany and then made my cousin take me back a couple of days later to buy the yarn I'd been coveting. Please take care of yourself or you will end up sick. Hope your husband feels better...ciao

Just found your blog from RC's and as a homecare nurse that knits, I had to check it out!

Yipes, you have completed a lot! I am finishing the Einstein Coat, just a couple hours left. I just bought yarn for a noro purse. My stash is huge, but I am friends with the owner of my lys and her hubby was just laid off. Now I have justification for spending too much money on yarn!!!

Devon, welcome. I like the way you think in respect to stash enhancement. If I knit the einstein coat-which is stunning-from stash, then I'll have none left and have to go shopping.
