Spilt Milk

Water is such an amazing life force, but it can be deadly, too. Just ask my Macbook which had a run in with nothing but a drop of the clear stuff. Right now, we're enduring a 72 hour drying out phase before I take it to the genius bar at the Apple store. A small part of me is holding out hope even though I think it may be finished. Makes me sick. I've googled repair estimates and they're almost as much as a brand new computer, but there I go putting the cart before the horse again. I have to let it dry before I write the obituary.

I will be blogging intermittently using my son's laptop. After all, he is the student and I mainly use my computer to waste time.

Computers are now, for all intents and purposes, considered consumables so it's usually cheaper to replace.

I know Windows computers are getting cheaper, but last time I looked, it seemed like Macs were still twice as expensive. Then there's the loss and/or replacement of data. I hope it works out ok for you. Karen

I have three more days to decide to keep or delete my Carbonite back up. Guess I better do it. I'll be crying too.

WT- I got this laptop a year and a half ago. Six months later, they came out with the macbook with the metallic finish that doesn't crack at $400 less.

Quiltluver, once I went Mac, I swore I'd never go back. I'd replace it before I repaired it for what is an estimated repair bill.

QMM, everything is backed up except for my photos. I'd been meaning to get to those. Funny though, the ones that mean a lot to me are already on my blog. It'll be OK.

Sadly, we have become a disposable world! First to find someone to fix it then to get a good price on that...boy, my comment is really gonna cheer you up!

I had left a comment on your previous post and see it is not there.... My new computer has Vista and checks everything like a guarded vault of money. Always asking if I am sure I want to view this and that. I need to learn how to turn that off. It is sad to have that happen to a computer you like so much, but they do seem to need replacing too often, for whatever reason. Good luck on getting a new one or repairing the current one.

Reminds me of when I emptied a whole cup of tea into the keyboard at work! Fortunately, it was an expensive one and my boss came in and took it all apart, cleaned and dried it, and hey presto,I could breathe again!

Hope you can get it sorted soon

I have always paid extra for the protection that covers even spills although I have never once spilled a drop of anything on my laptop. That said, I always have a cup of coffee or tea at my side. When I bought my new laptop this summer, I wasn't going to get the extra since it seemed a waste. My husband insisted...but I still haven't spilled anything.

Hope everything dries out successfully.

Aha! Now I understand why the blog of last week is still not up. Can I send it to your son´s computer? Like, what´s his address. I commiserate with you...I have had a mound of troubles with the computer. They´re great but we´re so dependent on them that life goes crazy without them. I´m so sorry you´ve had such troubles, also. Love, Jeanne
