Sewing Seeds

Yesterday evening, I was on the phone with my daughter getting an update on her injured friend when another call was coming through. I only use my call waiting for what I consider important calls and didn't answer, choosing instead to let it go to voice mail.

At my convenience, I made the call back to a former colleague who lost her job this year. She'd heard I'd hurt my back and wanted all the dirt. What dirt? I hurt my back, I'm on the mend, I'm back to work and there is no dirt. I'm not trying to make a federal case out of a muscle strain, so I was perplexed by why she seemed so interested. She kept using cryptic language like, "I'm worried you're going to lose your job," and, "I like you, so I want you to know you need to watch your back." My physical back, or a metaphorical one? Is someone with power going to take a knife and stab me in my back? She wouldn't expand upon her train of thought and concern.

I've had agida ever since.

This woman, still, six months after resigning, has her ear to the ground and I wonder if she hears hooves thundering toward me. Or is she so bitter about her forced resignation that she must sew seeds of discontent?

Out of the blue, she's worried for my safety in the territory I cover, but when I took this job, she pulled the seniority card and snatched the territory I had been promised. She had been slated to work the midnight shift, but changed her mind and took my job. Now she worries about my territory. She actually told me it would make her feel better if she knew I had a different job.

Me thinks I smell a rat, or at the least, I sense the incredible skill of someone who can build mountains from mole hills.

hhhmmmmmm...it's always good to keep your ears open for hoofbeats. She might be trying to alert you or she could be a whackadoodle. Out of curiosity, why was she forced to resign??
This type of gossip is a lot like poker, I think. Good to tuck these bits of info into your hand and see how it plays out with the rest of your cards, but don't let on that you have them.
PS. Verification word?? CHANT :>)

I think she is looking for dirt - possibly hoping you are let go so she can be rehired.

You are too valuable to worry about her type. They won't release you to take back crazy woman. No worries.

Gah. This is why I hate our species sometimes [women] - No offense to anyone, but they can be the most backstabbing, conniving pieces of poop sometimes.

Like my niece facebooked today [she is 20] "I thought we were out of High School" - I didn't have the heart to tell it some women never manage to grow up from that sh*t.

Good luck girlie - we're rooting for you. Hope the back feels better real soon.

I doubt that someone who's been let go is privy to that kind of information. I think she's wishing bad things on you because bad things have happened to her.

Definitely not a 'friend'. I think Skippy has put her finger on it.

And women aren't the only ones who play these games - guys call it politics.

I wonder if the purpose of the call was to try to elicit some complaints you might have about your job. It surely doesn't appear she has your interest at heart.

Hope your daughter's friend is stable and improving.

Rudee, don't listen to her, she sounds bitter about being let go.

I can't stand this passive aggresive type of behavior in people. Acting like they have your best interest at hand.

Be cautious.

Glad you linked the vocab word as I'd never heard of it before. There are always bitter people in our lives, aren't there? Hope all goes well.

I think your sense of smell is dead on. Remind yourself that you still have your job and she doesn't. Ugh! I hate backstabbing co-workers like that.

She must be bored. Can't stand people like that.

oh such people are so destructive. put the call out of your mind. what happens will happen. she is trying to agitate. she sounds like trouble, and definitely not a real friend.

If it smells like a RAT sounds like a RAT it is a RAT. Concentrate on geting mended and ignore her and next time she rings keep it short and impersonal - don't give away any information. Take care my friend.

well that's veddy interesting...

that actually is weird. I could see it if you were really close and the two of you had shared a connection about a certain someone or something at work..

but this sounds strange.

I definitely would watch my back..

around her.

I believe that those who are most suspicious generally need to be watched the most.
