What Do You Call This?

Slave Boy took Mr. Larger Than Life to the Casino today-not the one where MLTL cracked his coconut, resulting in a skull fracture and subarachnoid hemorrhage-the one across the river. Slave Boy is just shy of 21 and can't get into Detroit's casinos so they drove south of the border to Canada.

Like any old person, MLTL likes to get to the casino at the butt crack of dawn. Why is that? He doesn't imbibe, but his young companion had a beer before noon to help him cope with the shenanigans that surround his head injured grandfather. If it had been me, we'd have been calling a taxi to drive us home, and the whole world would have known I was a lush by 2 PM. My son is made of more flexible stuff than me.

The youngster was proud he had won a little money and was showing me his winnings Friday afternoon. He said, "it looks like I'm a crack dealer with all these fives and tens." I asked him if he knew what a Michigan Avenue Bankroll was. Of course, I immediately dated myself with that one, and these days, it's a crack dealer's wad. A Bankroll was a stack of singles with a big bill folded over on the outside to make someone think the carrier of said cash, was flush. Usually it was a gangster, or pimp some other worldly type of person carrying his money in this manner.

I found a Michigan Avenue Bankroll as I was leaving a downtown bar one night. That I found it on Woodward Avenue didn't matter in the least, I still identified it by its real name. There wasn't a soul in sight, just me, my girlfriend and a wad of money that was mostly ones and a single one hundred dollar bill.

Do you think I kept it? Would you have kept it? What do you call a wad of cash like that?

Slave boy, now enters the picture. I was so sure it was going to be your husband's name, and was a little surprised to see it was your son. That is a great piece of story telling for your future book that you are going to write when you retire, and get to sit around reflecting on your life. I had never heard of the money roll trickery. Now I know! Some lady on the news recently found several thousand dollars in some goodwill clothes and they are looking for the owner of it. Wonder how that story will turn out?

Wow...would I have kept it...it depends, if there was an arts and crafts store near by. I might have had a problem with honesty and integrity..

Brenda, I call my son Slave Boy because that's how everyone treats him-especially his grandfather. Perhaps Errand Boy would be better terminology.

oh.... wow.... look at that. Why... its beautiFULL!!! wow

A fantasy of mine is to find a pouch with around $30,000 in it. No name or address. Just cash. And if it was lost in my neighborhood, it would mean some crack dealer dropped his load. And I would keep it. You know, beings how it was illegal drug money and all. No guilt associated with that. One does what one can with a fantasy. (the first thing I'd spend it on is to buy my daughter a car and to get me a pc... a BIG OLE DELUXE PC. Oh... and a recliner. I desire a recliner. I knew you would be wondering.)

I once found a $50 dollar bill in the parking lot of a grocery store. I checked with the store to see if anyone had reported losing it. I must confess that my motive was less about honesty than a desire to enjoy the money guilt-free. The people at the store looked at me strangely, probably wondering who this fool was. But really, I would still be wondering if that was someone's last cash for the month, there were starving children at home, etc, etc.
