EEK!

I got up Sunday morning and while my coffee was brewing, I opened my laptop and clicked on my site. Nothing. I had my picture and title up there. I had all that nonsense I have down the left side of my site and nothing else. A completely blank page. I clicked on my archives. Nothing. There was one blank page after another. I knew some were reading what I'd posted the night before because I had comments in my email. Recalling what a hassle Brenda had because her site wouldn't publish, I worried. A lot. I could kick myself in the butt because I don't back this stuff up. I back up my laptop, but not my blog. It's not written in a word document then copied to blogger. I don't trust Google not to lose my work so I should come up with a different place to store the product of all my wasted time. Don't you agree? After all, I don't want to have wasted it for nothing.

What do you do to protect your ramblings?

Interestingly, the way to fix the particular problem I had is to write a post and press the save button. For some mysterious reason, everything publishes after this repair job. It took one hour to figure that one out. I should have had my coffee first.

And yes, I screech like that when I see a mouse or big ass spiders in the house.

The easiest way is to export them. Or you could use LiveWriter, that way the original is on your PC.

I've never done it before, but for some reason during the middle of a sleepless night, i began to think about it. Maybe I ought to do something about it

Maybe someone at blogger got the mistaken impression that your posts were full of hot air and decided to remove them. Glad to see that wasn't the case. I'd better remember your solution though, in case they decide to check out mine.

i don't do anything. they're either there or they aren't.

this has never happened with my blog, but it happens with riley's on a regular basis. i don't know why.

Hmmm I've got a lot to learn.. I ASSumed that since it was "on line" it would be forever saved.. I guess I better figure out how to back up. Glad it came back up

If you haven't already done this, go buy an external hard drive. You can get them for about $100.00 and back everything up once a week or so. Blogging is time consuming enough...but then to have it all go ...POOF...is very irritating. My biggest gripe about google is that there doesn't seem to be anyone to go to for an answer when you have problems. There is a help group, but whatever they were suggesting for me was very vague and didn't help me. I also took a few blogs off, but saved them, pictures and all onto word documents. That was surprisingly quick to do and easy. Have a great day Rudee!

I've never backed anything up either, wow...I guess I got lucky. But now I guess I will go back and copy all of my 500 or so posts into Word or some such, just in case. I've had blogger issues the last couple of days mostly on the commenting side, all resolved this morning...ciao
ps. i do have a nice external disc sitting around somewhere!

Brenda, I have a small thumb drive, and we have a portable drive, but does it back up your blogger site too?

WT-I'd need ECTO for my Mac, but I'll look into it. It's a good idea.

Flydragon-I actually thought my blog got flagged. I've heard Blogger can take you offline immediately for offending anyone's sensibilities (i myself believe in the principal that if you don't like it, move on).

Laurie-I'm glad I'm not alone.

I agree with Brenda. Get yourself a portable Hard Drive. For a little of $120 you can get yourself a pretty large one from Western Digital 1TB(Best Buy). Shop around you can find it for less. Then you can put all your ditties for a lifetime on your portable Hard Drive. It will also allow you to back you your laptop; PC; Son's Laptop; Husbands laptop; MLTL toys etc.. My little portable HD is 110GB and it is just over 1/2 full. I have very few pictures or music on my laptop's HD. Most are stored on the HD and my PC.

I had that problem here and there but basically ignored it figuring blogger would figure it out. I don't back up anything on blogs either. I don't even know how.

Never get time to back up the blog. It's all I can do to actually write it! Maybe I should think about it though.

Oh I love mice but not spiders.

If it's a lengthy post I do it in Word but if it's just a quicky as they say, I just do it on Blogger.

My stuff disappeared once or twice so I just left it and went back later and hey presto it was there. I often have problems getting into Blogger, it's so unreliable.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was some way to contact them. Maybe they deliberately don't let you because it's so full of problems.

I've noticed lately that blogger is doing this thing. I click on a blog and only the sidebar loads. When I close it and open it again a couple of times - then everything is there - like magic!

Love that you work for wool. If you saw my knitting room you'd know I'm a fellow wool freak. I love the smell of it with a passion. I'm fortunate that there is a woollen mill very close to me and I can go there and get my fix (wholesale too). Hooray!

I use to own a wool shop - I'm that crazy about the stuff. Man - those were the days! Colour - texture - patterns.....sigh....

Ooh aims, I want my own knitting room. Right now, it's all over the place (and a lot is in packing boxes already). I'm deeply envious of your close proximity to a woolen mill. Deeply.

The fix I posted was recommended by blogger and it worked. All I had to do was save the post-I didn't have to publish it.

Oh I found a backup blogger site on someone else's blog. Sorry I can't remember whose I was flicking about. It's free if you take the basic service. I've tried it tonight and it's saved everything including photos and comments.

The site is http://www.bloggled.com

Once a log time ago, everything seemed to be gone on my blog (I use wordpress). I found that someone had hacked into it. I removed the offending stuff (and it WAS offending (and I don't blush easily.) It was fine.

Now you have me worried, not about the mouse but loosing my blog.

I have some quite brillant blogs that I would hate to lose...not, but I would hate to lose them.
