Love, Hate and Other Matters of the Heart

I'm trying to decide if I love or hate the rug that shipped last Saturday and was received last night. It warms up the room and has a mix of colors that match the furniture, so what's not to like? Meh. That's about the strongest emotion I can summon. It's OK. It isn't what I wanted, but it was $400 less. It's also darker to hide the shedding beast's fur. It's not like I didn't know he was a shedder. We discussed it and decided this is the breed of dog we want to share our home.

Who? Me? It's not shedding...it's sharing.

This off centered light fixture that sits at the end of the living room has been marked for the scrap heap. I think I hate it. Yep. I do. The only saving grace is that the halogen bulbs within really light my way when I'm knitting. We'll see how long I can ignore this eyesore.

Besides the fact that my room is too small, and the walls are the same color as every other room in the house, what's not to like about this picture? Nothing really, except that I can't snuggle beneath that gorgeous quilt I won from The Women's Colony giveaway until sometime later tonight. The maker of this quilt said it needs to be used. No problem. I'm sending out a big thank you to The Women's Colony and Mrs. G for this beautiful work of art. I'm also going to use this as a color palette while paint shopping.

Camera shy Brian and the belly rub hog-dog, Leo (or as my husband has dubbed him, Leotus).

The long awaited appointment with the Obi-Wan of electrophysiology cardiology at the University of Michigan was today. The good news is that my son, long maintained on a beta blocker, is free to go about his life with barely a nod to his heart. It'll keep on beating normally with or without the medication. Obi-Wan thinks the young man has outgrown his disorder. The bad news is that my young son is free to pursue his dreams and that includes a four year stint in the military.

Since he can stop taking his heart meds, maybe I'll be able to use them for the worry my heart will surely feel as he takes his next steps.

Sigh...

Love your rug! must be expensive, if you say it was $400 less! If you don't want it you can give it to me. There's one problem: hubby will say: I thought you loved the tiles!! (I'm joking!).
Lay off the worry, and let your son make his own mistakes (if it is!) He's gotto do what he loves, dear mom!
(I know what worry is-my son has taught English for 4 years in Communistic China -it is still Com. on the mainland -no matter what people say, I've been there!)

Eeek, talk about a silver lining. Or maybe not. Heart news good, military, not so much.

I like the light fixture and the quilt is gorgeous. The rug is interesting; it'll probably grow on you.

Great news! You'll always worry no matter where he is or what he's doing, so he might as well be happy.

The light fixture - I agree that bright lighting is a huge plus. Nothing is perfect and my experience is if you let it stay until there's something better? Well, it becomes a keeper.

Leo matches the rug! The word verification was bestrud.

That is just simply wonderfully fantastic news about your son. You raised him right, he won't go wrong.

I am so glad Leo is working out.

I agree the light is different but it gives LIGHT and that is wonderful.

Been looking at the rug, try turning it long ways with just the couch and loveseat on it, dark end under the sofa. Then choose a small rug that matches it in a solid color to go in front of the side chair.

Did that make any sense??

I like the rug. It reminds me of a quilt called "string quilt". Great news about Brian's heart. He hasn't made definite plans yet has he? Maybe you are worried about something that will not happen. I would keep the light fixture if it gives off great lighting. I love great lighting.

That is great news about your son. I love that Leo is on the couch with him. The quilt is gorgeous.

I think it takes a while to get the feeling of a new home. I would not buy anything that you do not LOVE. My test to pass for new decor is that is must work in every room of my home. While I like the rug,I think you will know in about a week. If it doesn't grow on you then return it.

I have been known to wait years for the perfect item. It is nice to keep it all neutrals and add color through your accessories.

Big hugs to you and Leo.

Okay, I love the rug, but I also love the light fixture! Don't throw it out, save it for me...

Ohh, I really like the rug! If you aren't sure about it, try pulling it out from under the couch so it stands on its own... a friend showed me that just moving things around a little can really change the feel of a room.

Love that quilt and I'm thrilled you are actually using it, life is too short to box it away!

My daughter won't drive for 3 more years, I'm already nervous! I can't imagine how people cope with their children in harms way!

But it is cool that he gets to live his dream!

Good news about your son's heart. The sometimes hardest part about being a parent is letting live their dreams. That quilt looks so inviting

You can have my ugly 80's ceiling fan.

Deja vu!! The Medical College of Toledo had this same type of rug on their patient care floors. I would get dizzy running up and down the hallways. $400 adds a lot of love onto my opinion!
Good to hear about your son's healed heart. Happy he can pursue his dream. I know the military is a huge worry, but you and I both know dreams get shattered everyday simply driving in a car or walking across the street. Still, why can't their dream be to live in a super security, hypo-allergenic safe house with a hotline phone to their mother?? Is that so damn much to ask?

That rug was $400.00? The store should have paid you $400.00 to take it off their hands..uggh!

Also, your dog is very handsome. Is your husband as good looking as the hound? Just wondering as I sit overlooking a lake in Melbourne, Australia.

Oh, as a mom I can see why you will be worried about your son, but good news about getting off the meds. I really enjoyed the photos you showed, the quilt is lovely! And I like that rug a lot.

I am thrilled to hear about your son's heart. Thrilled! I love your rug. Very energetic. But for goodness sakes if you're ambivalent, keep looking. Leo is absolutely darling. Hard to beat cuddling up with a pooch like that. One day at a time on the military stuff, eh? I'd feel just like you do. Tough stuff.

The absolutely overwhelming pride you will feel when you see your son graduate from basic training will remind you why you gave birth - why you did so many things. I have a military son. It is a wonderful thing. I thank him for serving me and my family.

And you for raising a boy who wants to serve.

The verification word is fiers - oddly appropriate.

I'm with you on that sigh.

The rug is cheerfull and lovely. I like it.
Fixed heart is great but the military not so, but what can you do - you can only grow kids adn then you have to let them fly meanwhile holding your heart.

the rug? if its just 'mey' to you? i'd return it. gotta get something you love! your son's heart..awesomeness! my daughter is in the navy and will tell everyone..if you're gonna join the military, go airforce...better treatment from your superiors, shorter deployments, and the best food of all the different services! (i've heard that from others too :)

I now how you feel about the military thing...my 19 y/o signed up last month and will be shipping out the first part of July. First basic, then... I am scared to death. While he is not OUR oldest, he is MY oldest and I want him to get older. My thoughts are with you. Missy
