UFO Bites the Dust

Like all knitters, I have a lot of UFOs (unfinished objects) laying around the joint. This isn't one of them.

I have two more items to complete before projects with a due date are off my needles. At that point, it'll be knitting for my pleasure. With the shawl finished, I whipped through the remainder of the first square for Mareseatoat's afghan. I have a month to finish the other two, but if they go as fast as the first, I'll be all done in no time.

By the time I got 3/4 of the way through this pattern, I finally got the hang of cabling on every stinking single row. Don't tell me I'm not a bit twisted myself. I have knots in my neck that feel the way this looks. I'm not prone to repeating a pattern. I get bored with them, but this one is an exception. Sometime soon, I'm going to knit this afghan for myself out of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.

I'd be remiss if I didn't thank you for your kind comments about my shawl. I'm inordinately proud of this particular piece of work. It turned out better than I could imagine, in part because I had all of you to cheer me on. So, thank you for your support.

Oh. I forgot. I'm filling out the state fair application tomorrow. I have until the 6th to submit the app and the $10 fee. The shawl isn't due until I drop it off on the 15th. I've been assured that it's beyond good enough. Rumor has it that this will be Michigan's last state fair. That really saddens me, but that's a post for another day.

You're amazing. I love the cabling.

Just think - you will have a blue ribbon from the last state fair :D

It is sad if they choose to do that, we always enjoy our local fair here [Fredericksburg VA - not a state, but a local and a lot of rinky dink fun!]

Good luck. Can't wait to see that blue ribbon.

Oh, it'll be so exciting to have your beautiful handi work at the State Fair, so the masses can admire it, and you can walk away with a blue ribbon!

Happy Sunday!

Yes that has got to be Blue Ribbon material. You are an ambitious one. I love the creamy white. Will you wear the shawl after you win the ribbon?

I'm just so impressed at your knitting skill, Rudee. Being able to create such beauty. I've never mastered anything but stocking stitch. Of course, I've never really tried either. Maybe in my next lifetime.

What an honor that would be: to win a blue ribbon at the last state fair! Sad, though, that fun stuff like fairs seem to be a disappearing way of life.
You could enter your squares, too - the first one looks great.

Joanna, the shawl is stocking stitch. The border is garter. It's still just a combination of knit, purl and yarn overs. Simple, right? I will say that the directions were limited and this made it hard, but the stitches were easy. It was the sheer mass of the beast that was overwhelming. At the end, there were over 700 stitches to each and every row.

Stephanie, I think the squares are due in Texas before the fair begins.

QMM- the shawl is not for me. It's pretty, and when I make one for myself, it'll have to be out of yarn less delicate.

We don't have state fair here at all. I think out in the country they may do things like that. I love the cables, actually I love cabling altogether. I'm finishing up a few UFO's this week too so I can start something new with my Noro yarn...ciao
