Gathering Leaves
by Robert Frost
Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.
But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.
I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?
Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.
Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?

I hope you all got a chance to enjoy the harvest moon. It was beautiful here in our partly cloudy skies. What I love best about autumn are honey crisp apples and the abundance of root vegetables roasted or grilled. I love the weather-cool and crisp and Neil Young singing Harvest Moon. What about you? What do you like about autumn?

I looked out my attic window a couple of nights ago and saw the moon. Made me think that all my friends are seeing the same moon, were just all so far apart. Haven't seen it since though, it's constant rain here. I miss the fall now that we are over here every year and I will miss Canadian Thanksgiving once again...ciao from Germany
The moon was so pretty last night peeking through the clouds. It was ethereal looking with those clouds framing it. I thought of my friends too. You can still have Thanksgiving where you are or when you come home ;-)! I've been admiring your pictures of Germany very much. You look like you're having a wonderful time!
My favorite season too. Gingerbread with whipped cream tonight.
I'm having a blast, more pictures to come soon...ciao:)
MMMMmmm...Gingerbread. I love the smell of it baking in the house.
I used to feel very sad at this season and the end of the summer but now I love it. In the UK it's when the markets are at their best, but now I'm in France it's new territory - how exciting is that?
I missed the harvest moon but enjoyed the picture you put up. Autumn is my favorite season. I love the trees turning colors and the cooler temperatures. I am so tired of yard work by this time of the year!
Lulu, that sounds like a wonderful adventure. I'm green with envy.
I love fall too; it always feels more like new beginnings to me due to the school calendar. MB & I walked to the beach after work and relished having to bundle up due to a chill in the wind coming off of the bay! Thanks for the poem.
I wore a jacket yesterday Rose. My internal thermostat is loving this! I haven't had a hot flash in 2 whole days. Remind of this in March when I'm sick to death of winter please.
I do love the Fall so much! Such a gorgeous time of the year. The vibrant colors of orange and gold. The cool, cool nights and warm sunny days. The foods that you associate with the time of the year and of course Thanksgiving...and Christmas soon to follow. What's not there to love about it?
It's a toss up for me though. I do love the Spring just as much! My two favorite seasons.
The moon has been so beautiful. Last night it was very full and hazy.....gorgeous.
Your picture is wonderful!
I like spring too BJ- just not the humidity of summer.
One of my favorite all time songs by one of my favorite all time incredibly talented Neil Young guy...I love that photo
