Sending out an SOS

Eight more days until election day and a respite from the glut of political ads. I've tried valiantly to avoid the advertising by recording the shows I want to watch and then fast forwarding through the ads. It's hard to do when I'm knitting and especially hard when I'm trying to concentrate while knitting lace. The ads sometimes get to play and I'm sick to death of them all.

Knitting lace by the light of the laptop is not the brightest thing, but I make it work.
Notice the clever use of virtual sticky notes I use to keep track of what row I'm on (I think the Yarn Harlot would approve).

Saturday night, I cast on the Yarn Harlot's, Pretty Thing. It was my way of trying to rid my mind of all of the ugly: continued woes with Banksters, mortgage fraud, and possibly illegal foreclosures, disgusting he said-she said, political ads, a dad who scalded and drowned his two toddlers, a local banker who was murdered, a new Al Qaeda threat imploring the Muslim community in Detroit to commit acts of barbarism...you name it...the news is depressing. I needed something pretty to knit and I chose to knit it for Fanette. In 100% cashmere. In fact, it's in cashmere that was priced at $28 a ball (80 yards per ball). Two years ago, I picked up two balls of the pale pink luxury fiber at the bargain basement price of $10 total and I waited patiently for the yarn to talk to me. It finally spoke on Saturday night, so of course, I dropped everything else and cast on.

The pattern is easy to memorize and worth every penny. Only 61 rows long, it should be done sometime today. I hope Fanette likes it and feels every thought for comfort and peace that I put into every stitch.

"Message In A Bottle"
by, The Police

Just a castaway
An island lost at sea
Another lonely day
With no one here but me
More loneliness
Than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle

A year has passed since I wrote my note
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life
But love can break your heart

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle

Walked out this morning
Don't believe what I saw
A hundred billion bottles
Washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone
A hundred billion castaways
Looking for a home

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle

Sending out an SOS

This is why I am glad we don't have cable anymore. I know that makes me sound Amish - but really/ Our house is one peaceful place. I can go online and read the news at my pace and not be bombarded.

I will dance for joy when the election is over and I can have my television back. Ugh!

That project looks so beautiful. You're pretty inventive with those sticky notes.

I love the lace pattern, but I can't get past the sticky notes on the laptop.

No matter the outcome, I will also be happy to say goodbye to the rhetoric.

elections hate the advertising - here it really makes no difference who gets in - the worst was the that last time we didn't get a result immediatley and it continued for 2 weeks I think but seemed forever the news and debate was ongoing then.If you are in a safe seat you don't get much bombarding by telephone and mail just the TV for each party.

I hate all the election hoopla too, especially since it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. We can't trust any of the politicians any more. Your work is beautiful.

I know my head is in the sand, but I try to avoid the news at all costs.

Here our mail box is stuffed with political pick mes!

I am not a pink person but this piece is stunning, I love the softness and the color. Great job.

I so agree with you about being hammered with news and ads I don't want to hear.
On a brighter note..your project is just beautiful, I just want to reach in and touch it.

love how it's turning out! I can't wait to see it done!

I get lost all the time when I follow a pattern on a computer, and I never thought of the sticky notes!
instead I keep printing the patterns and making a folder that I carry around with my work - I just finished row 15 of Versatility and I'm loving it! first time with such a big knitting project (I crochet more often than knit)

When it's election time here, I rely entirely in my colection of movies. I may watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers every day and not grow tired! LOL! political campaings are awful!
