All Work and No Play

Mr. Personality, Leo for short, is a handful. Lord, I'd forgotten how energetic young Dobies can be, and this one has energy to spare. Last night, I was watching television in bed with the mirror covered to prevent barking. The character in the show knocked on a door and the dog went nuts. He bounced out of the bed and wouldn't stop barking until we got up and looked in every room, out the front window and finally took a trip out into the back yard. He was relentless in his hunt for barbarians.

Like someone else I know, I think he takes his job too seriously.

After scoping out the house, he finally fell asleep, but woke me up when he fell off the bed around 5 in the morning. Actually, he slid off the edge and had himself lodged between the bed and the wall. Seventy five pounds of flailing dog is heavy in the middle of the night.

I think I need to teach the dog a new job. I bet he'd like agility classes.

[sorry Leo] But I just choked on a mouthful of Frosted Mini Wheats reading of him falling off the bed. bwahahaha - I know that isn't nice but the legs akimbo scenario just made me laugh and then to get stuck? oh poor Rudee and Leo.

With our dogs they bark at bells/doorbells on TV - and we disabled ours LOL couldn't stand the nuthouse romp we got everytime it rang!

Oh, how cute, especially since he's at your house and not mine! Just like babies, they are. Cute as a button but so much work!!

agility class is a great idea. maybe he'll be a jumper, like Riley. and if nothing else, you have yourself an incredible guard dog.

Oh, Rudee, I know it isn't funny, but I could not stop laughing! From playing detective to trying to get a flailing, wedged puppy out between the wall and bed, must have made for a very interesting night. I'm sure it didn't seem like it, but it all sounded so cute and sweet. I just love puppies. This one sounds very responsible, although you may want to push the bed closer to the wall, lol. What a bright spot.

You love it! Well...probably not the waking up in the night part. 75 lbs...that sounds big to me. Our dogs were small ones. 35 ish..
Leo sounds like a very good protector.

That's hilarious. I'm having little movies playing in my head of poor Leo stuck.
Isn't he the best friend to have at night? Maybe you should take him on some of those less than comfortable home visits.

I'd start with obedience classes first. Leo needs to learn who's in charge and the classes will help you learn how to defuse the barking.

After he "passes" obedience school, then agility training is a great idea but only if you have enough time for follow through.

I'd also recommend a LONG and brisk walk every evening after dinner to help calm him down.

The time you spend in training will be well worth it. You'll end up with the kind of dog you want.

Oh lord that is funny! His antics are amusing from across the country!

Years ago I was in a Denny's resturant, (God knows why!), with my mom. She had this annoying little dog she always hid in her purse before Paris Hilton made it popular. At Denny's when an order is done a buzzer alarms to let the waitress know. It sounds identical to a door bell. That Damn dog started barking like mad!
