Right Place, Right Time

It's Tuesday afternoon as I write this, but it won't post until midnight. I'm hoping by that time, I'll be requiring smelling salts as I come out of a dead faint after learning I've won the Megamillions lottery. Two hundred and fifty two million is nothing to sneeze at, and hey! A girl can dream, can't she?

Sitting in my swing this afternoon, I was considering how I'll spend that money my place in the universe when the little black squirrel I've been watching all summer took off down the street like a bat out of hell. Really, all I saw was a flash of black and green and heard the sound, whoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoop. Say it really fast, and that's exactly the sound I heard. It looked and sounded so ludicrous, I started to laugh. The little thief had stolen an ear of corn from the neighbor's yard. The piece, which was 3 times as long as she is, made the whooping noise as she ran off to get close to her tree.

She's the same squirrel that runs like crazy and then falls down in the middle of the street and plays dead. Right when you start to think she is, she jumps back up and runs some more. Watching her do this is hysterical because she looks like she's hit a brick wall when she falls.

Quite obviously, I'm easily entertained.

ETA: Ok, I'm sorry most of you don't seem to have ever seen a black squirrel. I found the following article quite interesting in terms of an explanation. The takeover seems to be Canada's fault. You can read it here.

What a great description of the squirrel with the ear of corn. That's one squirrelly character. Fingers crossed that you win the lottery Rudee. ;)

I've never seen a black squirrel before, but she is beautiful. I love watching the squirrels here, they always seem to try and take away more than they can handle

I've heard it said that where there is a black squirrel you will also find a black squirrel. Maybe it's a Minnesota thing, but it seems to be true in our neck of the woods.

I love the idea of you sitting on your porch being entertained by squirrels. How do you manage to fit THAT in?

It's 12:50 so I hope you're being revived right now!

Isn't she a cutie! Like you, I'm easily entertained as well. Animals are the best entertainers.

Any good news on the megamillions?

Have a great Wednesday, Rudee!

Wow! I didn't know there were black squirrels. I've seen albino ones, but black ones are different.

If I'd known there was a paucity of black squirrels in the world, I'd have posted more pictures sooner. I grew up with them so they're just ho-hum squirrels to me. This particular one has been fun to watch with all of her antics. For all I know, she is a he, but I'm not planning on getting close enough to get to the bottom of things.

I have never seen an albino squirrel.

I have never seen a black squirrel before, how cute. What a little character, I'd be entertained by it too. I'm glad you posted the photos, it went perfectly with the way you explained his actions. Too funny!

Never seen a black one. Ours are still brown. A great post and a great story. That's what I say about watching the birds and the flowers and the bees with HH. I ain't hard to please. I saw a lizard in my bedroom yesterday. Don't know how long it has been here or if it is gone or not. HH tried to find it. No luck. I'm going to keep it cold and dark in there maybe it will head for the dampness and sun.

QMM, I'd be really squirrely if I knew there was a lizard in my bedroom. You're a better woman than me!

I have never seen a black squirrel either...wow! I love the top left quote....haha....peanut butter and valium. I do remember you talking about this funny little fella before. He needs a name...

I'm just as easily entertained as you. I can sit and watch the hummingbirds for hours and you saw me play with the chipmunks a couple of weeks ago. They provided hours of entertainment for me and they got a huge stash of peanuts to boot. Now if you win those megamillions I hope to see you in Greece... ciao

Black squirrels are in New Jersey and I have seen white ones in the south. The whites were not albinos. However, the greys really persecuted the white ones so I don't think they will be around long.

i live on the other side of michigan, we don't really have the black squirrels here, ours are pretty much all brown...i'm not too fond of our brown squirrels either...they ate the heads off of my sunflowers, before they even bloomed! maybe that black squirrel would have at least waited so i could enjoy the flower!
