Needle in a Haystack

Shenandoah National Park

I'm taking everyone's advice and setting the knitting aside for now. I know it'll come back to me soon. It better be back by the end of September when I go to Virginia. Mareseatoats signed us up for a class with Jane Slicer Smith. I don't know which class or classes we're taking, but the idea of learning some new techniques is exciting--it may be just what I need to knit my way out of this rut. In any case, it should be a fun 4 day weekend. My baby brother is flying out with me so we'll have a bit of a family reunion. We'll be short one brother, unless he changes his mind. I hope he does.

On a search for music to match my feelings this week, I got to thinking about the soundtrack of my life. You know, it wasn't half bad. I used to feel sorry for my kid's generation because they just didn't have what I did growing up. Oh wait a minute...yes they did! They were my captives for so long that they had no choice but to listen to my music. Later, I became a bit of a captive to their sounds. Although I can't get into all of what they listen to, surprisingly, I like a lot of it, like Eminem, Kid Rock, Greenday, RHCP and Jason Mraz. It's an eclectic selection to be sure, but just can't compete with the sounds of my youth.

For some reason, even though this song is about lost love, I feel like dancing when I listen to this music. It's not knitting, but it may just be the next best thing for this funk I'm in.

Here's a taste of Philadelphia's response to the Motown machine:

And yes, I'm spinning wool in addition to spinning records.

Enjoy the spinning. I can remember growing up listening to my parents music, now we have a third generation Queen fan, amongst other things.

So true. My stepdaughter loves Paul Simon's Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints albums thanks to me. And I love lots of groups I can't remember the names of thanks to my oldest daughter!

Well, my two sons and daughter are around your age, I think. (45, 49, 50) So their music was the 70s and 80s stuff, and not bad at all. I liked most of it, too. My younger granddaughters are into Miley Cyrus and the Jonas brothers and stuff. But my music was the golden oldies. Ah, those were the days! :-) Have a great weekend, Rudee!

Miss, I love Queen, and if I remember correctly, I have purchased 2 Queen CDs for my son.

Rose-Paul Simon is an amazing songwriter and poet. I love a lot of his very old efforts.

Renie-I cut my teeth on Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Glen Miller and The Mills Brothers. I was once a captive audience, too. To this day, I have music from all of those artists on my ipod.

Aww....Motown....I had all of the albums of the most popular ones, and used to dance with a bedpost for a partner. Don't laugh...others my age did the same thing! We also watched American Bandstand and tried to copy their dance moves. And we went to dances a lot and Danced! My husband and I work at a Teen Dance once a month for charity and we learn alot about today's music...and kids.
My 26 year old son is listening to what I keep calling "Our Music"....Beatles, etc. Those artists are really making a come back.

I'm sorry you're in a funk with the knitting. I got some yarn and needles and working on a VERY bad scarf for my grand daughter. Love this some.

Oh yes the sounds of the sixties, Fantastic! The Beatles, The Who, Buddy Holly, Cliff & The Shadows, The Three Degrees, Simon and Garfunkel, Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, Elvis, The Drifters, the list is endless! Then again I liked the seventies too and the eighties when we listened to our two children's music in the car on holiday. Think I just like pop music.

One of these days I'll write a post about my son and a Queen concert I let him go to when he was 14. Now I kick myself that I didn't go with him.

The faster the music the faster I knit!
