Flutterbys

Sitting around the last few days, I found myself wondering when I'd get confirmation of my State Fair entry that I sent in a couple of weeks ago. Well wonder no more, here it is. Sometime this weekend, I have to find time to re-block my shawl so it's looking perfect, manage a way to get my piece labeled so it's identified as belonging to me (it's lace-no way to hide a label), find a dress form for display, and take it to the fairgrounds. It's due by 4PM Sunday.

Saturday is out since the spinning posse is caravanning to the Michigan Fiber Festival to indulge in whatever it is spinners do when surrounded by fleece. Good thing Friday is payday.

Who had this hair-brained idea of entering this piece in a fair? I can't help wondering how many judges will look at it and immediately pick out flaws. I must be crazy.

I have to tell you, I've had a real eye opener just by googling dress forms and mannequins. Who knew there were such kinky people out there? There's one Detroit man who smashes windows and steals the female mannequins. He must be lonely...

Exciting!! The important thing is that you're doing it (trying to remember a Yoda-like quote here). Enjoy the trip tomorrow! Pay that rent first!!

Can you get the mannequin thief to donate one to you? Sort of like Robin Hood?
Good luck with all the prep...I didn't think it would be so hard to display the shawl. Makes the knitting part look easy. Well, easier.

lol, takes all sorts. Best of luck, you'd get the prize if I was the judge

Haha...what Stephanie said. I think you will get a prize. It is gorgeous. If they don't give you one we will...how's that.

Can you make an attractive hang tag and attach it with a piece of the same color thread and a super small gold safety pin? That would be an elegant way not to harm it. Or do you think someone would remove the tag? It takes all kind I find.

As for flaws? None girlie - we are going to celebrate your win - you wait! Couldn't be more proud and can't wait to see the blue ribbon.

You might want to check thrift shops [call around] they may have a dress form/mannequin for sale or may actually loan you one.

Great luck to you! :)

I like Skippymom's idea. A friend of mine used this for tags on her hand made clothing and it looked pretty classy. Use a nice heavy paper stock and some pretty wool--maybe matching?
Don't worry about those last-minute jitters. I'm sure you'll win.

you've come too far with that shawl not to give it everything you've got right up until judgment day.
