You know it's freaking freezing

...when you come home from work and start shopping for thermal underwear on line. I look like a bag lady with an over abundance of hand knits that don't even come close to matching including my fair isle hat, a stolen cowl, deep in the forest fair isle mittens, an Icelandic sweater and plain Jane socks. Even with all the woolen layers, it's not enough to keep me warm. For that I added feathers, or more specifically, down. Though we've had no snow, it's bitterly cold with a breeze I'd call north of fresh.

With the exception of one last fiddly gift, I'm done with my holiday knitting. It truly helps to eliminate the unappreciative before making such a list and I've worked hard over the years to pare it down. For motivation to finish the last item, I need to revisit the inspiring sample I saw at the yarn store. That's about the only thing I can think that will keep me working on this work of art.

On the work front, I met Mr. Larger Than Life's twin tonight. Who knew the universe could be big enough to hold two people so alike? We had a chat about hospice and I talked to him for about 30 minutes before I realized he could have been MLTL's clone. The best thing about this chance meeting is I'll get to see him again tomorrow night when I open his case.

I just love having a reason to wake up in the morning.

Yes Laurie, I stole the cowl from the pile of gifts I knit. I'm choosing to blame it on the weather right now.

Yeah for you completing your holiday gifts! I don't know how you do it. I love what you are showing in the photo..so I'll take that. Just kidding. I was wrapped up in the shawl I won from you last night. It is light weight but super warm. My grand baby keeps trying to steal it from me. She knows good yarn already. This should be an interesting patient. A clone of MLTL. Keep us informed and good luck.

Love the whatever it is in the picture - looks like a lot of fun! I think we need a picture of you in all your layers. It's 10 degrees here so I feel your pain...

I need the lowdown on MLTL - I wasn't around the first time!

Laughing at the image of all the mismatched knits you're wearing. When we had our recent cold spell, I felt the same way. Who cares if you're warm? And knitters are blessed to have all this wooly stuff. Now feathers I don't have unless I drag my duvet around. Not a bad idea.

Beautiful! I know the seed stitch, but how do you knit the baubles -are they regular boubles? (the baubles I've seen in patterns seem to stick out more...) I don't know what you're making, but it would look stunning as a hair band:)

Jeanette, those baubles are knit over two stitches surrounded by slip stitches in the green. Slip 2 then k1p1k1 in the next two stitches. Turn the work and purl 6, turn the work and k1, ssk, k2tog, k1. Turn the work and purl 2 together twice. Turn and knit the next two stitches through the back loop and back to the pattern. The baubles are staggered on the rows they occur. It's fun but tedious.

I own two wool hats with ear flaps. I bought them at the Hampden Park Co-op and, according to the label, they were handmade by middle-class artisans in Nepal. I wear both of these hats. Well, not at the same time. I mean, I wear one of them a lot. No, I wear the other one, too.

I was saying? Well, it has been very cold lately, I always said I would die rather than wear a hat with ear flaps, and those middle-class artisans in Nepal really understand cold.
