And the survey says...

Feeling pressured, I joined a committee at work that meets once a month. Yesterday was the first meeting I made it to as I slept through the first one. Tomorrow there is another mandatory meeting at 8 AM. Nice. This is just what the night shift loves doing--getting up at the butt crack of dawn after working until 1 in the morning.

This morning, I overslept after working 11 hours without a break. This is not such a good idea as I have an overdue appointment to get my hair cut. When I looked in the mirror this morning, my hair, wild and bushy, looked like I'd had a wild nightmare that lasted all night. There was nothing appealing about my sad case of bedhead.

This got me to thinking about what I should do before I went to see the stylist. Should I wash it and do a quick blow-dry? I mean, isn't she going to do that anyway? It reminded me of the time I paid another woman to clean my house. I would clean the night before she came so she didn't think I was a slob. Duh. I finally gave that up since I was doing 90% of the work and all she had to do was vacuum and mop.

As I mulled over my options, these were the three that came immediately to mind:

1. Get all dolled up to go to the hair salon because you are certain the paparazzi are waiting to catch you in an unguarded moment.

2. Relax by knitting another row of lace and then slap a hand knit hat on your head as you walk out the door. When you get to the salon, tell the stylist it's hat hair.

3. Chill out and let the bedhead slide because after all, you remembered to put on clean panties. In this way, you're prepared for the worst of emergencies your mother warned you about.

What would you do?

I pick #2! It's cold enough out...

I seem to always go to the hairdresser from work - & usually I've had a GOOD hair day that day. It's just the odds.

(4) Eat 40 grapeleaves, drink two cups of coffee, check out ESPN and walk the dog...Bam, haircut time.

3- That's what you're paying the headresser for. Let her see what you're working with.

I always look horrible when I head out for a haircut. I just can't get excited about fussing with my hair right before I'm going to pay someone to fuss with it for me.

Oh, definitely number Two. I know what you mean, though. I always wonder why I wash my hair the morning I go to the salon. But, it's a done deal by the time I've had my shower. No thought required...what a waste of water and the teasoon of shampoo!

I'd go for #2 oe #3, then give her a good tip.

I recall reading that you should go to the hairdresser with good looking hair - then they have to work much harder to give you better looking hair. Not that Ive ever done that.

I think #3. Just put on clean pants, and a touch of makeup. Run a brush thru hair.

My reasoning is: I always try not to look like a complete slob when I go to the hair stylist because I dont want them to think I dont really care about my appearance. And hence not do a good job for me. Good luck! xxxx

interesting comments! i would go and apologize intensly for my dirty hair (previously covered in a a hat) and hope it didn't gross her out too much.

Well...if I lived very close to you I would find out when you were going (from your son or hubby)...and then I would get some other folks to pretend like we were paparazzi and start snapping photos of you going into the salon. Then I would post it on my blog....Just kiddin. Wear the hat.

One of keys to being a good committe member is showing up at meetings when they are actually scheduled...

Well hope you post a pic of your new hair..I laughed about the cleaning before you cleaning lady would come. That is something I would have done.

I never wash my hair before getting it done. My friend Anne always does a good job. She couldn't do anything else!

A friend of mine has a cleaning team every other Monday. When we talk he'll say, "Well I have to go put the unmentionables up. The cleaning ladies are coming."

Number two for sure, that would be me. I must confess though that I always was my hair before going for a cheapie 10 buck haircut; what the heck I have better uses for my money, like yarn...ciao

Hat hair works every time!

#2 because you know where your priorities are at :) btw thanks for the justification on the price of sock yarn.

Oh! Oh! I actually know this one!

#3 - because that way my hairdresser can see for herself where all my cowlicks are and what I have to contend with on a daily basis.

Fortunately, I only live abut a mile from the salon! And it is on my list of things to do today! I don't know where, but it's on there.

I came over from Empress Bee's site. Curiosity got the better of me! Nice to meet you

Okay - obviously late to the party, but with a [strong] opinion [what's new, right? heehee]

Oh for heaven's sake Rudee - knit and go with wild hair. What is the point of all that money spent if you aren't going to let her do it all? [I know you won't go in with the greasies or anything, but a scarf goes a LONG way to getting you in the door to the salon, eh]

Now we need a pic to see how gorgeous you are. :)

Hugs and love sweetie!

my hair takes hours to dry--two, minimum. so i just go to the hairdressers as-is. let them wash it. no need to do it twice.

I vote for the hat. I agree with The Bug about my experience though. Usually I call and make an appointment when my hair's in a terrible state. Two weeks later when it's my appointment time the hair has gone to another stage and is starting to look quite nice. Then I get it all cut off. Go figure!
