Time Out

When I was just a young thing, locking me in my room because I'd been naughty was like a death sentence; being sequestered was just about the worst thing on earth. I recall the desire to be in the thick of things at all times. Oh! How I long for those time outs now. I'd pay somebody good money to send me to my room for an hour. Even 10 minutes would be good. Over the years, I've come to appreciate solitude and an empty calendar.

With the holidays coming up fast, and me with nothing done, my work schedule has conspired with my to-do list to make me feel like I'm already behind this month--even though December just got here. Nobody at work was willing to pick up a day here and there for me so I can get some things done. People just weren't answering the phone. Until today.

Woot! I scored 4 days off this month that wrap a weekend. If you're mathematically challenged this morning, that's 6 days off in a row. The woman picking up my days needs the money and I need a break. That's what I call a win-win situation.

My goal is to have most of what I need to get done completed before next Thursday so I can sit around the house eating bon-bons, spinning yarns and knitting for 6 days in a row. I know that won't happen, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Well, maybe you can make it 5 days spinning, knitting, etc. LOL
You could shake hand with my middle daughter, we wouldn't have to lift a finger or raise our voice, being sent to her room you would think was her death sentence:)

I hope you'll enjoy your 6 days off, and do all the things you like or need to do, Rudee!

I'm so glad for you! When I read the headline, I thought you were taking time off from the blog, which would have made me sad. (Are you getting the idea that I think everything's about me? Oldest child syndrome). Good luck getting everything done. And keep us posted out here!

That's great Rudee.

I want one of those doggy things in your picture. Do you have the pattern?

mmmmmmmmmmmm...bonbons.

Love the anticipation of a stretch of time away from work.

You made me remember my worst punishment, though--not being allowed to watch Cinderella with Leslie Anne Warren the very first time it was on television because I was home, late again, with no phone call. Oh, the horror. I was so sad. :>)

our punishment when we were little was this: we had to sit on the bench.

the bench was in the front hallway, and nobody *ever* sat on it. it was wooden and hard and on display. if you were seen sitting there, everyone knew you were being punished.

you were not allowed to read anything. you were not allowed to talk to anyone. it was like being in the pillory. public humiliation + boredom = punishment at its most effective.

ohhh congrats about all that time off. When I worked, I would get so excited for even a day off. I basically worked 7 days a week to keep up with my transcription business.

Nobody called it Time Out in our house - we had to Stand In The Corner! If it was going to be a long time looking at that intersection of walls, we could sit on a stool.
When I was older, it was grounding. Now that was torture.

I wish you happiness in grown-up TO. And lots of knitting projects crossed off your list!

I hope you can accomplish all you need to in one day and have the rest for all you want to do.

Brenda, when I look at the picture, it looks a little silence of the lambsie to me.

Winifred, I didn't knit that! It's a picture from Wiki Commons.

love.every.minute. am so happy for you rudee. wheeee..a long break for once :) due to newly instituted 'furlough' days at my weekly job, they have decided on a policy where, every furlough day, we lose our vacation hours. we don't have the choice to take the day without pay. which sucks the big one. i asked about next years vacation..i said i would take it without pay as my vacay hours are being sucked up by furlough days. they are not allowing me to take a vacation without pay. hence...no vacation in 2010. i think in a former life? i must have been a real a*shole. i am condemned to stay on this wretched island for ever!

Lisa, that's awful. At my previous job, I often got low census days, but we were given the option to take them without pay and to save the pay for our vacation time. The only problem? At the time, I couldn't afford to take them without pay, so I never had vacation time.

Snow is in our forecast today, with temperatures to match. Although you hate your "wretched" island, I'd trade you for Detroit in a heartbeat! LOL.
