Sometimes, I'm a Bit Slow

Or in the Hamtramck vernacular, I can be a liddle tick. So, I cast on 12 stitches for a top down hat, put 4 stitches on each of 3 needles, joined in the round and knit 1 row. So far, so good. Row 2 instructed me to *K1, M1* and repeat from * to * for a total of 18 stitches.

Now I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but come on! For every stitch I knit, I make one. How often does 12 x 2 equal 18?

It's a well established fact around here that I demonstrate perseveration behaviors that aren't always healthy. The question here is, do I throw in the towel now, or continue on my quest to finish a project where the designer has evidently flunked 2nd grade math?

Meh. Think I'll go have a beer and think about it for a bit.

Too much thinking for me.

I agree with the part about the beer. BTW, guess where I ended up yesterday? RHINEBECK! I'll post about it when I get home but I couldn't wait to tell you!!

Have you checked the date? It may be from the Bush/Cheney era. "Screw the math, it is what we say it is!"

Sapphire--me too!

Rose--I saw your comment and immediately turned a deep shade of green.

Sillliyak--um. Hello? The pattern is from 2005. That explains a lot!

Gail--my sentiments exactly!

Don't you just hate it when they use that 'new math'? LOL I'm with you on this one. Is there a secret message written between the stars?

Oh Rudy you got me too. I have never encountered such in crochet. But I guess the two techniques are more different than I thought.

Ruth,
You are TOO FUNNY!!! I had a good chuckle as I read your 'latest'!

Listen, I need your new e-mail address if there is one....or are you just as you were with your previous computer?? I'll try e-mailing you, also.

Stephanie, there was a lot of errata in this particular book. The patterns were cute, but every hat had a mistake. Makes me wonder about her test knitters. I see this author has a new book, but maybe I'll wait for the printed errata to come out before I indulge.

QMM, misprints are misprints no matter the technique.

Oh, my, good thing I don't knit. That would frustrate the heck out of me, and I wouldn't be happy!

I am with Mickey Mouse too.

Bummer about the crazy pattern. I would skip it and find another. Looks like you are checking off your list pretty fast, and if I remember right you did get your Mac. Good for you!
