The crazy neighbors

I have no idea what's going on with my newest neighbors, but apparently, we're having either a terrible design problem, or the decorator is just plain nuts.  Maybe one of them is angry with the other and keeps having fits.  I don't know.  I'm not speaking of my next door neighbor who always mentions privacy fences and property lines when he should be considering brands of lawn mowers.  I hope he does put up a privacy fence so I don't have to look at his weeds, litter and foot high grass.  Instead I'm talking about the robins who've decided--after a 1 year absence--to nest on our porch again.

I first saw this guy (look hard--he is perched on Stoney's head) surveying his new territory on Saturday.  All day Sunday, he was flying in the materials and the building had begun in earnest.  By Sunday night, he (or she) had knocked it to the ground.  Undeterred, he began to build again with fresh materials.  This morning I went out to ask my husband a question and noticed the bird(s) had knocked the nest down yet again.

Truly, I'm perplexed.

Either they need to agree on their design concept, or risk not having a nest.  I hope they make up their minds soon or there won't be a spot to birth those babies.

We used to have robins that did that. They always wanted to nest on my wreath and leave such a mess I had to pitch it. What is wrong with the TREES?? That is what I can't figure out...

oh dear. and my neighbors (not crazy) have robins nesting on their porch, too, and yesterday a crow came and snatched one of the eggs and ate it.

nature is brutal.

Birds are fascinating, aren't they? Hope they find some arrangement soon.

Don't get me wrong, I like robins, but they are seriously challenged birds. They are always doing daft things like building nests in impossible places. Or drawing the crow's attention to their children - home alone - with their hysteria. It's a wonder that there are any robins at all.
I hope your get a grip and find a flat surface.

Robins make the messiest nests! They just pile up some grasses and perch eggs any old way; drives me nuts.

I've got one now in the corner of our porch awning and it's a real mess.

I was going to say maybe one of them is a (never satisfied) perfectionist, but reading other comments, I obviously don't know much about robins!
Anyway, I hope their indecision doesn't leave you with a huge "builders' mess"!

leave some yarn around they may use that.

A bird was trying this at work. Of course I could not have a bird nest on my porch light. I placed a bungee cord on the light and the building has stopped. I guess that thought the neighbor hood had gone down hill after "snake" moved in.

Hmmm, could be a dispute with the contractor, union vs non-union nest builders or maybe the nest is in foreclosure and the bank can't make up its mind what to do. That seems to be the cases with some houses around here.

I hope it is settled soon, and considering this is your front porch, I hope they have excellent plumbing. ;-)

I love "Stoney".. Lucky you - a robin.

We are moving soon and where we are going, near a lake, I found out today ducks build nests in the bushes so I'll have little ducklings running around, yeah!!
