Perspective

After knitting a bit this morning, and watching The Help with Sara, I got busy with the tree. Sara had an artificial tree in storage outside that, and I kid you not, went up in about 3 minutes. I felt a bit like the Grinch opening and closing trees like they're umbrellas! Still, it's pre-lit and while it's not a fresh fraser fir like I'd been thinking of getting, it was easy. Easy is good this time of year. I'm so glad the spirit came to visit.

Here's a group of men and women who had no trouble finding their spirit. According to their youtube description, this is some of what they missed while on deployment:

Births, birthdays, graduations and holidays. On hearing they'd be going home for Christmas, they made this video.

Charming. Welcome home HMS Ocean!

It sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

We have one of those that is light blue.

We're such slackers. We pulled the box out of the closet and that is aa far as we got.

I personally love a Blue Spruce. Duane won't let me have a real tree since I'm allergic. He said, he doesn't doesn't like to listen to me wheeze all through Christmas.

Trees
1st finally gave up on the live ones, no room.

Tried a skinny artificial, but it was butt ugly.

Went with a 6 ft curled black metal that shows off the ornaments really well. No lights but it works with the room I have.

Besides it puts away in the basement in 3 pieces, easy and NO losing ornaments in the branches.

Mom had a pre-lit that I was told, last year, never worked right. We added lights to make up for the gaps. After Christmas I spent De-lighting it, and it was NOT De-lightful or De-lovely. With 3 strings of lights this year, Not so bad.

Your tree is just beautiful! I love the wall color... what is it?

For some reason I have to comment under anonymous... this is Devon.

Thank you, Devon. The living room is in the Sherwin Williams color Breezy, a cool gray/blue shade. The color number for SW is 7616.

Our tree is very small and lives in a box - all ready to stand. No popping up but some of the decorations often are left on him him. We call him Dougie after a more famous tree: the Douglas fir. No relation at all.

I never dreamed I could get away with an artificial tree. But when my husband's hip implant (implanted three years before) BROKE in December of 2009, I knew I could not manage a real tree by myself. Not wanting him to come home to a house without a tree, I bought and assembled a prelit one. Amazingly, he was so happy with the ease of the artificial tree that we bought a nine-footer last year. Oh, so much easier and so little cleanup.

Love Britain! :) And I hope they do make it all home for Christmas.
That is my favorite Christmas song/movie - so it was a lot of fun to watch them. Very cheeky [and no, I didn't need to see the officer on the toilet.]

I swear I thought your tree was real. Wow it is gorgeous. I was always a live tree girl myself and then we adopted Scooby. He made it his own personal mission to drink the tree dry everytime we watered it, soooooo, artificial, pre lit it is - and the ease of set up, the savings [real trees are astronomically expensive here] and simple clean up has me sold on ours. And unless you get right up on it, I don't think you can much tell.

I do miss the smell tho'. But, that is what candles are for. :)

Have fun making cookies with your friend. What's your favorite? I am about sick over here eating the ones we made. But yum!

The tree looks good. I have one about 3 feet tall in a bucket. It is on a table so I don't have to bend over to keep it watered. Whatever work, I say.

The video made my cry happy. I am proud of my husband and oldest son for serving, but I selfishly hope I never have another loved one away from home at Christmas when it isn't their choice.
