I'm feeling rather hungover today. Since no alcohol was consumed yesterday, I think it was the combination of cooking all day in the kitchen and then starting a 12 hour on call work schedule. Working a midnight shift does that to me, but I'm required to work one holiday a year and Thanksgiving seems to work out best. Last year I got no calls, and this year I got only one call for all 12 hours. I did have to go out, but I was back home in no time at all. I waited another couple of hours to see if my hospice phone would ring again and finally threw in the towel and went to bed. I tossed and turned all night because I think, worried I'd miss a page, I slept with one eye and one ear open.
I'd briefly considered going to either Target or Kohls at 1AM, but simply could not muster the desire to feed the Black Friday Machine. I felt even less compelled when my alarm awakened me at 7:30AM to send report. Rather, I spent the day as I imagine a sloth would. I'm so glad I did.
The reports of violence at 9 different Walmart stores is really disturbing and I can't help but think the frenzied ads leading up to BF feed this insanity. There were reports of fist fights, and fights over towels that cost $1.88. There was one armed robbery with a shooting, and no surprise here, the stereotypical trampling of another human being in the rush to feed the greed machine. Oddly, there was only one account of a woman who pepper sprayed people to get to the items she wanted first. You'd think more people would have thought of that one!
Instead of surrounding myself in lunacy, I stayed home in my jammies all day long. Oh, I mustered enough energy to watch a little college football, eat some leftovers (more than 1 trip to the fridge), read a bit of the Yarn Harlot's book, and of course, knit. I also gave
It's almost time to call it a day and go back to bed. I'm betting the retail workers of America are as relieved as me.

As you know, I went out later in the day - it wasn't too bad - thank goodness!
My nephew had his 1st day on the job at Target today. He said THAT wasn't too bad either.
Thus ends the report from Hickory, NC :)
Cooking all day and sleeping with one eye open sounds exhauting to me. All of my food turned out pretty bad except for the dressing. Next year we are going out Those commercials for BF are scary enough for me. Violence over saving a few bucks......unbelievable.
Pepper spray is now a food group according to some.
I hope you get some sleep today Rudee - but overall your Thanksgiving sounds pretty nice, especially with one call. Tho' I can imagine how difficult it is to fully fall asleep knowing you might be called. I would do the same thing.
We are boycotting all the stores that opened up for Thanksgiving because we think it is a sad testament to the greed/avarice in this country that they can't even leave a non commercial holiday alone. I know one family won't make a difference to Wally, Kohl's, Best Buy or Toy's R Us - but it's the principle and I would rather my money went locally or to smaller online businesses.
I look forward to Christmas shopping but I don't need it shoved down my throat while trying to celebrate Thanksgiving. :D
Have a nice weekend.
I'm glad you only had one quick call.
I think a sloth moved more than I did today. Mine was spent knitting and having food handed to me in my chair.
Next year there will be more pepper spray, now that it's been done. Probably tazers too. I'm waiting for the tazers to come out next.
Just noticed, my comment goes so well with my grumpy bunny avatar. *chuckles*
The tazers are for the cooking. Shocking I know
Silllyak....just made me aspirate my tea. LMAO. I think you're on a roll tonight.
Home alone sounds like the best place to be. Hope you managed to catch up on some sleep
it's insane, those people in those stores! simply insane. is that what the season has become? sad really.
enjoy those leftovers. i don't have any this year and it's a good thing for me! ha ha

Nice for you that you only had one call. Although, sleeping with one eye open isn't very restful, either.
I was thinking of going downtown today but I just remembered it's Grey Cup weekend here. Talk about craziness. Best stay home...it's raining anyway.
We had lots of family come for Thanksgiving. I am so thankful that my BIL behaved. All in all it was a good day. I'm tired and I hurt.
Hope you get a good rest over the weekend. I have no doubt that the publicity about the pepper spray incident will encourage more idiots to try it next year.
I saw one interview with a family lining up outside a store at noon for a midnight opening. The man said it gave them a lot of "family time." Guess that's not exactly what I think of as family time.
How does Leo smell now?
we had the wal mart insanity on our news here. All sounds a good reason to avoid shops on big sales days.
Staying home in jammies all day is such a treat when you work hard. Just waving hello.

I have no desire to go shopping on Black Friday. Sadly to say I was surprised at all the stories. First they do happen, but the new people are so hungry to get a story they will find anything to tell. But I did enjoy the holiday and today was my birthday and had a great day. Get some rest dear friend.

I agree with Skippy. Thanksgiving is for spending time with the family, not for being greedy.
