Gearing up!

Note the countdown clock on the side.  Our trip doesn't seem that far away now, does it?  With that in mind, we did a little shopping today and I bought a new pair of hiking shoes using my usual shoe shopping criteria:

1.  Are they ugly?  Yes, hideously so.

2.  Are they a trusted brand you know will fit your Fred Flintstone-like feet?  Indeed they are!

3.  Can you picture yourself wearing them at your destination?  I can, I can!

Sold!

I also bought one pair of breathable hiking pants, 3 pair of hiking socks and a permethrin impregnated shirt.  If the mosquitos are as bad as I hear they are, well I'm not giving them an opportunity to feed on me.  It was my world traveling sister who taught me about the mosquito repellant clothing a few years ago when she had to use it while working in Papua New Guinea or some such malaria infested place.  It also repels ticks and black flies.  I'm going to see how well it works sitting on my front porch as I have accumulated about 6 mosquito bites out there this week despite my Off brand candles, Clip Ons and spray.  By the way, the shirt is kind of cute, which totally goes against my shoe shopping criteria.

I would totally buy those boots.

Are you saying the Off Clip-ons don't work? I just bought one but haven't tried it yet.

I am jealous that you can hike. Walking is a stretch for me some days. I love the shoes though! Can't wait to see pictures of your trip!

Yes, Amy. The Clip ons work, but our mosquito issue is really bad this year so I figure I can use all the help I can get.

Where are you going? I like your shoes. Hiking sounds fun. I haven't tried the repellant clothes.

A mosquito- and blackfly-fighting shirt. How cool is that? I wish I had one last night while I was out in the almost-dark dyeing sock yarn!

We took our hat nets to Newfoundland and never even took them out of the backpacks. That's a good thing. But all that wasted shopping. Love your shoes!

I bought my first pair of Keens this year, sandals though, not hiking boots. This princess doesn't hike. ;-)

Rudee I love those shoes. Look where they will be taking you. I cannot stay outside long even when the weather is nice. HH says I am so sweet I get bites all the time. He never seems to get any. Of course with shorts and sleeveless shirt all this fat tissue probably looks very tempting. Hike on sista.

No sense putting those shoes to waste..the trip to Yellowstone has been cancelled. Start packing for Mt. Everest.

I need some new WALKING shoes (not hiking - that sounds way too strenuous!). Those look pretty good to me!
