Steps Taken

After an inordinate consumption of Pepcid this week, a decision has been made. Today I applied for a transfer within my department for a non-direct patient care position. I won't know anything until the interview process begins, but at least it feels like I'm doing something positive for myself.

The good thing is if I get such a job, I'll be working days and I'll be in an office. The bad thing is if I get such a job, I'll be working days and I'll be in an office.

I get the impression I'm impossible to please.

What do you think?

It is sad that you have to choose between what you love to do and what you have to do.

But Rudee it is your health and safety at stake. You don't have a choice.

I hope you can make the best of a job that isn't perfect for you - and who knows you are probably doing as much good in the office as you would be on home visits.

Think about it. Patients will still have to rely on you and I bet you do a great job.

We wantcha' around Rudee - and I think this is the best choice.

Hugs.

I hear you loud and clear.
You know it in your heart (and your gut is talking to you, too), sometimes it's just time to move on. You can still be a blessing and still do a good job.
Heck, I'm thinking about going back to school. I sure can't do this for the next 10-15 years.
And seriously??? Why can't people just behave themselves? Is that soooooo much to ask--to keep the crazy to a whisper while I'm around? I think not.
Now that I think about it, you probably want to work on inventing the Vit. H/Valium room freshener with us. Lavender scented quiet time...

I think you did the right thing. You gotta do what you gotta do....and move on. Best of luck to you Rudee. I am happy for you and hope the new job is wonderful!

Your choice...It will all turn out good.

Distracted, I want some of that room freshener.

As SkippyMom its sad you have to choose between safety and what you love cos of a couple of deadbeats. The system needs to be fixed so that patients who have difficult situations are known and the information shared so this sort of thing dosen't hapen to anyone.
Good luck with the interview and finding a new niche for your self.

If by impossible to please you mean you have personal boundaries, then yeah, but you know you have to. I'm so sorry you're going through this and hope it gets resolved positively.

You will still have a positive impact on the people you want to help.

Yes the day does come Rudee when even nursing has to take a different direction. How may years have you been taking late shifts, night shifts? Many a good office job came about just for the day job status. I had to make the same decision about 20 years ago and I know I made a difference where I went. Have faith and take care of Rudee and family.

It sounds as though you are taking a stand for your own safety and peace of mind. You can take abuse for just so long before you have to step away. If your job leaves you scared and shaking then it's surely time to find a different situation. I hope it works out for you.

Better to be safe, hope it all works out well

Rudee--I just want you to be happy. You give, give, give, and if taking on a non-direct patient care post gives you some peace, I'm right there cheering you on. It saddens me, though, that the system can be so screwed up as to put you in such a place. I truly believe the old saw that God works in mysterious ways, and I've been around the block enough times to see it's true. Whatever step you take will be exactly right.

I think you're between the ever-popular rock and hard place. Tough place to be----been there more that a couple of times. You will know what to do.

Stay alive! Take the office job.

ohhh...working in an office five days a week, that's a hard pill to swallow, but a safer one at least.

You need to be safe, not just from physical attacks but also from verbal abuse. This will make a nice change for you. Go for it, and be safe.

I don't think I would like working in an office all day either but safety trumps all at this time, me thinks...ciao

You have such a busy life... not just work. This will give you more predictability and routine. You will know exactly when you can get started on that next knitting project.

Another huge plus, you will be helping the families you care about and keeping yourself safe and sane!

I hope it all works out well! Good luck!

Day jobs aren't really so bad, if you can enjoy what your doing. But office work.. Hmm.. I sure hope this gives you a break from horrible people with no common sense, because you deserve it.

I am saddened to hear about your saftey issues in those bad areas. I pray that you will be safe from now on.

It is difficult to work when you do not feel safe, but it will be a loss for your clients.

I imagine that you will bring much joy to the office and a new safe place to work will help keep you safe, my friend.

Be safe, and be happy.
