Gift horse

I am not going to ponder the meaning of the lack of snow in these parts, but I have to say, it's rather enjoyable. Last night, while winding up an insane work work (the full moon IS approaching), I noticed my son had tan lines from golfing. In Michigan. In early January. He also had a little sunburn on his face.

Remarkable.

It was nearly 60 degrees here yesterday and that is so very rare, it deserves a comment. I'm sure it's inviting a natural disaster of the doozie sort to even mention this, but not once have we had to take the shovel out of the garage and only twice have I felt such bone chilling cold that I despaired winter would never leave. Oh, I know it's early days but feel Mother Nature deserves a thanks for being kind so far this winter.

It's been so mild here too, I've been waiting to see how we are going to pay for it. Such a contrast to last year

The very wet 16inches that they got here at home,(pre-halloween), took half my poor dogwood tree. I walked through the neighborhood and realized many hardwoods are missing. They still had their leaves and the snow took them down.

Oddly enough, the weather people keep going on about how little snow we've had this winter--looking at Nov. and Dec. I guess October snow storms don't count!

Granted, it is 50 degrees here today.

I am so happy with the mild weather, I was bracing myself for minus 25-40, and lots of snow. But now I am moving home, where they have been getting snow storm after snow storm. But I enjoy the snow and miss it. Granted my Dad has a plow for the driveway :-)

Before you know it you'll have that bad attitude to snow that we Westcoasters have which creates such chaos everywhere. We've only had rain so far...it's a good thing.

I had to firmly knock on wood after asking this question: what happened to the predicted super-cold winter that was forecast?

We are cooking out again. :) I miss the snow, but it can hold off until after Pooldad goes on his business trip.

We got up to 70 yesterday. Weird....but nice.

My personal seasonal-expectation clock is all messed up this year due to the weather we've been having lately! I've been taking it day by day. Nothing is phasing me...it'll be cold for a couple of days then everything melts. It'll rain then freeze up just at end-of-day rush hour. It'll snow but nothing will stick. People walk by the house with sleds on their way to a local hill and I have no clue as to whether there is enough snow for them to be sledding or not. Not only is the weather inconsistent and barely 'seasonal', the conditions around the corner cannot be counted on either! It's somewhat comforting to know that it's not just happening in my corner of the universe!

My friend whose husband recently had a triple by-pass bought a snow blower. I am of the view that when a friend does that we will have a good year, my hope anyway. We've been lucky here too so far but I hear some arctic air is on the way. I'm knitting hats like mad... Ciao

Our Milwaukee daughter says they have had no significant snow, not enough to measure. In WI, after the first week in January...no snow. Unheard of.

We have had a pretty mild January.

Well we have had some sun also but the temps are not conducive to my being out long enough to get a tan. Gotta give youth it's credit. My horse riding son has the sun tanned face and hands too along with nicks and scratches from bushes and brambles. Spring is not far gal, keep on trudging.
