When life isn't fair

Of all the things one can catch, I can think of many that are better than what I caught this week.  I mean catching fireflies is fun, so is catching the right mate. Catching your plane on time can take you away to places exotic, warm and beautiful.

Catching the flu?  Not so great.

Despite my best efforts at avoidance, like getting vaccinated, eating well, being clean and washing my hands all of the time, I have contracted influenza.  Everything hurts, including my hair follicles and I have a persistent fever that despite taking ibuprofen in prescription strength, hasn't budged from 101 degrees.  I am the third person in my home who has been brought low by the flu, even though we all had our vaccines.  I'm sure we're dealing with a strain that wasn't in the shot.  We were each one miserable.

This all started Thursday and it's not too late for me to get Tamiflu...if I could only stand upright long enough to get up, get dressed, go to urgent care and let someone stick a swab down my nose.  Dying sounds preferable to all of that.

What a miserable little virus!

So sorry. Sounds awful. Wish I could do something, but this will end eventually, the sun will return, you all will feel better.

Oh, that's not fair!! This flu seems to be a pretty nasty variety that no one saw coming. Hope that you'll soon be on your feet again. Not really a rest, is it?

Oh dear Ruth I'm so sorry. It's a real pain literally & it is unfair when you've had your flu jab. Maybe you have a different strain of flu to your vaccination. This year the one I got included H1N1 – the strain of flu that caused the swine flu pandemic in 2009, H3N2 – a strain of flu that can infect birds and mammals and was active in 2011 and another known as B/Wisconsin/1 which was apparently active in 2010. Wonder if it came from Wisconsin!

I was thinking the flu here had just about gone as I know very few people who have had it. Thankfully we've all avoided it so far. It's years since I had it & I know I thought I was dying! It lasted for over a week.

The biggest problem here seems to be this Norovirus. Lots of children were ill before & over the Christmas. It really banjaxed some of the Nativity plays!

Take care Ruth, keep warm!

Oh Rudee being out and about everyday is one sure way to get that old bug. I have been staying close to home and allergies driving me crazy but no flu, so far. Sending healing energy your way.

Sorry to hear it, Rudee. I had the flu but only for two days and that was it. My niece and my grand niece have it much worse than that.

I think gor a fever you want to take plain old aspirine or paracetamol. Ibuprofen may not do much for it. Try to take cool baths too.

I hope you feel better soon. My niece said that even her gums hurt. xox

I am down with a sinus infection and allergies are killing my right now.

Maybe Leo will give you some sweet sugar.

Wow, I guess I was having sympathy symptoms on Thursday. I thought I just had a 24 hour virus or life just finally ran me over.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

That sucks truly, I hope your all better soon. I'm told that the vaccine is only 50% effective but without it you could be a lot sicker. I have Tamiflu just in case and I've been real careful too. Right now Norovirus is making the rounds here.

Oh no! Get well soon.

Rudee, so sorry to hear you're ill. I really do sympathise, as I've also been sick, a viral infection, nasty thing.
I definitely identify with not being able to stay upright. I couldn't lift my head off the pillow for days, had to get doc to do home visit.
Rest up, take your time resuming activity. It's a nasty one.
