If I didn't have email notification of new comments, I wouldn't even know of the sale. Who goes back to look at posts from months ago? Three times in the past week, I've had to go back to one of my original posts about my husband's aunts and delete the offers. I could moderate posts, but I myself prefer the instant posting of my comments on other's blogs and don't really want to go this route. I've tried captcha, or word verification, but in this case, I may be dealing with a real human, or a machine that gets the word. I did the next best thing and disabled comments on that post. I hope that whoever is trying to advertise on my blog without my permission, gives up with that one post. It's the one with the bridal gown photo at the top, so I'm hopeful that's the case. If not, I'd hate to go back and disable commenting on all 600 or so posts. We'll have to see.
In the meantime, I'd better get the mop out and clean the house myself.

That was so funny Rudee. I must have missed the Honey postings. You couldn't make that up could you. What a pair of witches! Are they Mr Larger than life's sisters?
Your husband has some relatives that provide better material than any scriptwriter could. I'd copyright them before someone else does or who knows we could be seeing them on screen before long.
I've not used that moderation for postings either so who knows I could have some fantastic offers I am missing out on.
I use word verification on my blog [as you know] and in addition to my other blog that ran for two years [so, three years total] I have never had one "advertisment" type comment on any of my posts - and you know me - my posts run the gamut from worms to death - so you would think they would get in somewhere, but they haven't.
I suggest word verification, honestly. It does work.
I, too, have a spam comment buried somewhere on my blog. Got the notification email on it, but the post is so old I didn't feel like tracking it down. The comments just had links in it. The odds are good that no one will ever see the comment, but I may go searching one of these days just to get the garbage out of the 'house'.
Winifred, only time and distance have made those women funny. It's much better to recall the memory of their passive aggressive behavior than to live through it. In retrospect, their meanness was shocking.
Skippy, I've had OK luck without word verification, but I may have to go that way after all.
Crusty, I immediately permanently delete all linked comments--unless they're from regular readers.
Just to say I've finished the Honeys saga. Would make a wonderful TV black comedy.
Must have been horrible for them when they were young. As they say "give me the child until he's 7 and I'll give you the man". Poor little beggars. Still looks like they got their own back on everybody except the one who deserved it.
Did you ever write the Retirement instalment?
Winifred, I haven't reread them all until today. It still all rings true to me and the family who have read these. Some family members have not read them--those would be the ones with no sense of humor.
One day I'll write the retirement installment, but since I've already written about her death, I don't know how I'll squeeze it in.
Sorry I'm hogging this blog but forgot to ask, what's a shriner ring?
For a better idea, google Shriner's or Freemason's ring. You'll see it was no small thing that this mean man used to smack his kids on the head with this thing. True story.
I've only had one before which is why I put moderation on, but took it back off very quickly. Much easier to delete it if it doesn't happen very often
Darn...you must have deleted the comments. I clicked on the post, but didn't see the comment for someone begging for housework. So they wanted to come to America to work at your house and clean for you?
I have had a few crazy comments that I have had to remove and that is the reason I have gone back and forth with the saftey measures that google provides.
When I first started blogging, I had a comment that was extrememly long and lots of religious tones, most non-sensical, that could not be deleted. I had to re-do the entire blog just to get rid of it. It was showing up on other peoples blogs also, and it was a pain. Good luck with getting it all sorted out!
You shouldn't have to go back and disable the comments on all those posts individually, there's a switch in the Settings that lets you close them after a certain period. I close mine after 2 weeks, I figure that after two weeks the comment isn't relevant anyway. Most spam goes to older posts, and it's done by bots, not actual people. If you need help, drop me a line.
I've been having a problem since I disabled word verification. Someone is trying to sell me Viagra, lots and lots of Viagra. Word verification is back on...ciao
I got the Viagra comments, but I have not used word verification for some time. I guess if you are on a blog long enough anything can come along.

better to get smacked with the ring the the sword.

Thank you, WT. I found the option, though it doesn't shut them off, it sends comments to posts older than 14 days to moderation. This should help.
Brenda, you would have blushed if you'd seen the comments. It was more what to do when you have the Viagra side effect of erections longer than 4 hours. I'm certain those particular brides don't cook or clean.
Rudee, I for one am glad you had that problem or else I wouldn't have read this hilarious post. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time (they sound like true witches) but your telling of it made me laugh out loud.
