Romancing the Puck

Er, exactly what is a hat trick? Would that be a trick performed by a magician involving hats and rabbits? Why no, it wouldn't be a magic trick per se, but it is magic. It would seem Johan Franzen (or as ESPN calls him "Le Tour de Franzen") has the market cornered on the playoff hockey hat trick. In ice hockey, a hat trick is 3 goals in one game by one player. Franzen performed this feat twice in the Avs series. He is my Detroit Red Wing hero of the day (don't worry Ozzy, I still love you.)

Now, where did I put my broom?

Play to see where Johan gets his Swedish meatballs.

Brooms are Good for Sweeping

Detroit Red Wing fans have terribly long memories.  Very long memories edged with spite.  Fans here particularly feel this edginess when dealing with Colorado and it's all due to the hit that preceded this fight during a 1997 regular season game.  This video comes to you courtesy of my brother who thinks this clip is evidence of righteous retribution.  There may not be any calamari available as an appetizer in Denver area Italian restaurants Thursday.  I hope so anyway.
