I told them firmly not to give him any antihistamines because he reacted strangely to them and would become confused and hyperactive. So what did they give him? A HUGE dose of benadryl!!! When I told the pediatric neurologist that I had informed the staff about his reaction to antihistamines he said, "Well to her credit that IS our standard sedation for children." Nope, we never went back.

BTW: We went to another pediatric neurologist who did tests and determined that my son had a vaso-vagal response to sudden injury and that they would stop when he was four. They did.NCmountainwomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00615765649828716560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6810714864765099820.post-53003281450532152402011-11-16T09:56:18.857-05:002011-11-16T09:56:18.857-05:00I'm sorry she had that terrible experience! My youngest daugher went through exactly the same experience when we lived in Holland. Her two front teeth were just very deeply crossed at the roots and had to be removed and other teeth moved round. The scene I witnessed when I was allowed into the room (not allowed to stay) was like a barber/surgeon's bloody workshop from the 18th Century - my daughter was almost unconscious with pain, she and her clothes were covered in blood and they told me brutally and in front of her so I couldn't delay the news, that 'it hasn't worked - hopeless' . Would you believe that as I helped her out of the door, they smiled and gave her a new toothbrush?

Then back in Germany, she had the op again - at least they did it under general rather than local anaesthetic - but they couldn't achieve what they wanted and had to make a new plan. So she had the experience a third time. What pain and bravery went into my daughter's smile is unbelievable but she has it and it is beautiful and she uses it all the time.

Good luck to your daughter - in the end it's worth it.Barbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15198119176772158393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6810714864765099820.post-72864374596884941512011-11-16T03:39:58.921-05:002011-11-16T03:39:58.921-05:00Hugs to you both and hope all goes well.Bloody doc...Hugs to you both and hope all goes well.Bloody doctors who think they know best! should be shot.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04272556558968084362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6810714864765099820.post-37260057539750530802011-11-16T01:22:47.795-05:002011-11-16T01:22:47.795-05:00I sometimes question the self importance of doctor...I sometimes question the self importance of doctors who think that only their opinions matter.
